Sedation Dentistry

We understand how difficult it can be to manage your anxiety about dental surgery or other dental procedures. At Silverlake Dental Center, we offer sedation  to patients who are extremely uncomfortable with dental work. Oral and IV sedation may be an appropriate solution to help you overcome your fears and get through the treatment you need. Dr. Valentine and Dr. Aboulhosn have great success with using sedation in a wide range of different dental procedures.

Main Types of Sedation

  • Oral sedation – a minimal to moderate dose of the pill Halcion, making the patient drowsy
  • Intravenous sedation (IV) – the sedative drug is delivered through a vein, so it goes to work more quickly. This method allows the dentist to continually adjust the level of sedation
  • Inhaled minimal sedation –  You breathe nitrous oxide, otherwise known as “laughing gas,” combined with oxygen through a mask that’s placed over your nose. The gas helps you relax.

IMPORTANT: You may not be available to drive yourself home after a procedure if sedation has been implemented. Please follow dentists’ instructions regarding post-treatment transportation and recuperation.

You should not delay a visit to the dentist if you are scared or nervous about pain during your dental procedure. Instead, simply let us know that you have concerns about your visit and ask us about whether sedation dental is right for you.
